What Is Susukino Like During the Day?
SHORT ANSWER
On a sunny August afternoon, central Susukino felt active but not packed.
The main intersection was busy with cars and pedestrians, while some nearby entertainment streets were surprisingly quiet. In daylight, Susukino looked much more ordinary than its nightlife image might suggest.
This is a snapshot of one short afternoon walk — not a comparison with nighttime Susukino.

Observed approximately 14:40–15:00 around COCONO SUSUKINO, the main Susukino intersection, and nearby streets. We observed pedestrian activity, traffic, and the general daytime street atmosphere. We did not systematically check business opening hours, enter individual venues, assess safety, or repeat the observation after dark.
What it looked like
Susukino did not have one single daytime mood.
Around COCONO SUSUKINO and the main intersection, people were moving through the area. Just a short distance away, some entertainment-oriented streets were much quieter.
The Main Intersection Was Active, but Not Packed
At the main Susukino intersection, cars and pedestrians were moving through the area, but there was still plenty of open space.
It felt more like an ordinary central-city intersection than the nightlife image many travelers may have in mind.
Some Side Streets Were Much Quieter
A short walk away from the main intersection, the atmosphere changed.
One entertainment street we walked through had far fewer people and much less traffic at that moment.
This does not mean every side street in Susukino is quiet during the day. It is simply what we saw during this particular walk.
In Daylight, Even the Flashy Signs Feel Like Part of the Street
The karaoke signs, restaurant signs, and huge advertisements are still unmistakably Susukino.
In full afternoon sunlight, though, those same signs blended more naturally into the surrounding streetscape.
We did not check whether the businesses shown here were open.
What surprised me most was not that Susukino became empty during the day.
It didn't.
It was how quickly all those signs stopped feeling unusual. In afternoon sunlight, people were simply walking, cycling and passing through the neighborhood.
For a moment, a place I associate so strongly with nightlife just felt like another part of central Sapporo.
WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOUR VISIT
If you pass through Susukino in the afternoon, don't expect an empty nightlife district. The main intersection can still feel active, while some nearby entertainment streets may be much quieter.
You don't need to wait until evening just to see what Susukino looks like — but this field test does not tell us whether daytime is the best time to visit.
